Cardkiller Review

CardKiller.com Overview

Card Killer’s content is geared toward the low and middle stakes online poker player, which the site claims makes up 93% of the online poker market. Card Killer is one of the most affordable online poker training sites, charging only $19.95/month with no sign-up fee. The site was originally $10/month (which is practically giving away their service), and has recently increased its price.

Card Killers original (and current) pricing puts them at a distinct disadvantage when it comes to competing against the higher priced sites, like Cardrunners. Although the content is solid, the layout and features of the site have the $10/month feel to them, unlike the sleek designs, special sections, and features of the top online training sites. Hopefully with the increase in price the site will see some updates and revamped designs.

Strengths

Card Killers doesn’t delude themselves, they know what they are, and stick to their low-limit format. Card Killer is priced to accommodate even the lowliest bankroll, by focusing their video content on the games that new and struggling players will find themselves in: Building a bankroll at the penny tables, and low limit Sit & Go tournaments to name a few.

With videos in a variety of areas, Card Killer is the most well rounded of the online poker training sites specializing in low limit games. Along with their abundant Texas Hold’ Em content, Card Killer’s video library also features Multi-table tournaments, Sit & Go tournaments, Stud, PLO, Razz, and H.O.R.S.E. games. They cover just about every conceivable poker variant.

Weaknesses

The major drawback of the site is the lack of investment, which obviously is explained away by the extremely low price-tag.

Card Killers videos are undated, and there is no way to mark the videos you have watched. Players may have a hard time navigating through new content, and especially as they start going through the archived videos.

Users are unable to tag or rate videos, and with no forum on the site (doesn’t everyone and their brother have a forum nowadays?) it’s difficult to opposing views on certain plays, or discuss certain content.

Another aspect that really frustrates me is the lack of listing the instructors. Although a name does not make a good instructor, the lack of a name implies there is something to hide. With the ability to use SharkScope or one of the other databases online to see a player’s stats this is almost a requisite for a training site. I found the content to be spot on and very useful, I would just prefer to know who the players are that are giving the instruction beforehand.

The lack of a forum also takes away from the community aspect of the site. To interact with the instructors you must use the ‘Advisor’ feature, which is on par with e-mailing someone, and is an antiquated method in my opinion. Additionally, many good discussions on training sites come not from the instructors, but from the members. Without a forum Card Killer members are missing out on a lot of good poker talk.

Content Breakdown

As I mentioned above, Card Killers has a good variety of video, and also offers audio lessons: The site currently has roughly 200 video and audio lessons. One additional feature at Card Killers is their advisor feature: Where players can submit hand histories for an instructor to look over.

Card Killers does have its own hand replayer, but aside from that feature the site offers very little in the way of additional material or incentives.

Price

The #1 reason to join Card Killer is the price. When you can get access to hundreds of videos for $19.95/month you really can’t go wrong (the most basic poker books cost about $20).

Card Killer also offers a 24 hour trial period, giving potential members a chance to peruse the site before deciding to join.
