Drag the Bar Review

Drag the bar Poker Academy is the newest entry into the online poker training site market. Drag the Bar was founded by a group of online poker professionals who have gradually worked their way up the online poker ladder from the ground floor. Like many of their competitors, Drag the Bar does most of its teaching through videos.

Drag the bar pulled off a pretty big coup when they lured Cardrunners lead instructor, Dusty “Leatherass” Schmidt, away from the hugely successful site. Drag the bar also boasts Bill Robertie (co-author of the enormously popular Harrington on Holdem series) as their resident mathematics expert. Rounding out the instruction team is a group of solid online pros, specializing in everything from low-limit Holdem to PLO and Sit & Go tournaments.

Drag the Bar plans on releasing about 20 videos each month, which would quickly enlarge their content library should they produce close to that number of videos each month. The site seems to be aiming towards being a well rounded training site, instead of a niche site specializing in a particular poker game or format.

Drag The Bar are currently offering players a free 7 day trial at their site which allows them unlimited access at no charge for 7 days. Click here.

Instructor Team:

Dusty “Leatherass” Schmidt

Schmidt was the lead instructor at the highly successful online poker training site Stox Poker, so his experience and expertise should be an invaluable asset to the fledgling site. Oh, and don’t forget “Leatherass” has made over $3 million playing online poker!

Ross “Milwaukee2” Hartung

Hartung is a low-limit NLHE specialist, grinding away the $1/$2 NLHE tables while finishing college, and holding down a part-time job to boot!

Jeremy “ChipSteela” Menard

Menard is a Sit & go and multi-table tournament player whose story reads like many other online poker pros: Having caught the poker bug after Chris Moneymaker’s win in 2003, and has slowly worked his way up the online poker food-chain.

Hunter “BeachJustice” Bick

Bick, like many of the Drag the Bar instructors, started out as break-even/losing type player. But Bick turned out to be a quick study, and after reading a few poker books he has been able to steadily climb the online poker ladder.

Bill Robertie

Robertie is an expert chess, backgammon, and poker player, who helped pen what is considered the best tournament poker book(s) in poker history, Harrington on Hold’ em. Robertie is widely known in chess and backgammon circles where he has been a world-class competitor in both games.

Ian “IggyMcFly” Gordon

Gordon is Drag the Bar’s resident Pot Limit Omaha (PLO) specialist. In addition to his PLO expertise, Gordon also has a solid background in Limit Hold’ Em, having played regularly in the $30/$60 games.

Video Content: As with any upstart site, Drag the Bar’s major hurdle will be in getting more content up and running on their site.

Written Content: Currently Drag the Bar doesn’t have any written material to supplement their video content.

Bonus Material: A great blog area is one of Drag the Bar’s greatest assets.

Drawbacks:

The major drawback of Drag the bar is a lack of content, due mostly to the newness of the site - But the acquisition of Poker Swat is changing this rapidly.

However, another area the site may need a boost is in star power. Adding Dusty “Leatherass” Schmidt is a strong start, but with a flooded market Drag the Bar may need to turn to a well known poker pro as the site’s figurehead.

Bang For Your Buck:

One of the best reasons to join Drag the Bar is the reasonable membership costs, and the fact that there is ZERO sign-up fees! So, if you are looking for a new poker training site, Drag the Bar may be just the place for you. Players who join for 1-year –and get 6-months free—will be paying about $20/month.

1 Month = $29.99

3 Months= $89.97 --Buy 3 months get 1 month FREE

6 Months = $179.94 --Buy 6 months get 3 months FREE

1 Year = $359.88 --Buy 12 months get 6 months FREE

The Verdict: Score: 8.5/10
While only a recent entrant to the poker training market, Drag The Bar has made alot of stir in the poker training world with the acquisition of ex Stox Poker coach 'Leatherass' and the acquisition and merger of PokerSwat - which has significantly increased the power of this training site. Drag The Bar is still in its youth, but if their early activity is a sign of things to come, we are looking at a premium training site. The crew at DTB have alot of technological experience which can be seen in their video production and they offer high value for money with various membership discounts and free trials. Most importantly, the content provided in the training videos is top notch.
