If you’re looking for a poker renaissance man than you need look no further than PokerNews Strategy instructor Kane Kalas. The mid to high-stakes poker pro was one of the hottest poker players in 2010, tearing up the online poker tables, but still finding time to pursue a number of his other interests as well.
So why do I call Kalas a renaissance man? Well for starters he seems to excel at virtually everything he does, whether it’s being a student at the University of Miami where he majors in media management, his operatic singing and acting career, his voice-over and broadcast work, or bowling a near-perfect game of 299. Oh, did I mention Kalas is also a professional poker player and poker coach who receives hundreds of dollars an hour for his expertise?

Kalas is the son of legendary Philadelphia Phillies announcer Harry Kalas, and Kane’s brother has followed in their father’s footsteps doing play-by-play for the Tampa Bay Rays, and unsurprisingly Kane has also found his way into the broadcast booth on occasion, as well as onto the field to sing God Bless America or the National Anthem. Kalas was born in May of 1989, and is the youngest of three brothers.
Kalas started off playing online poker at the $100 No Limit Holdem tables and within two months was playing $25/$50 NLHE! His meteoric rise in poker was no fluke, as Kalas has continued to improve as a poker player, and is still one of the top winners in all of online poker. According to pokertableratings.com Kalas has won over $728,000 at the online poker tables in about 280,000 hands and is listed as one of the sites hottest players!
Kalas specializes in No Limit Holdem, heads-up, 6-max, and full ring and plays online under the screen-names of: Full Tilt – Nascar_1949: PokerStars – kangis: Ultimate Bet – Mikel_120.
The now 21 year-old Kalas has also started testing the waters on the live tournament scene and the young pro went 1-for-6 at the 2010 World Series of poker cashing in the $1,000 No limit Holdem tournament.
At PokerNews Strategy Kalas has produced a number of online poker training videos at a variety of different stakes. In all Nascar_1949 has created 9 poker training videos to date, with his most popular series being the “Heads-Up vs. Spirit Rock” 2-video series –for those that don’t know, Spirit Rock is none other than poker superstar Prahlad Friedman.
Kalas’s other video entries include a $2/$4 heads-up No Limit video; 6-Max videos at the $5/$10 and $10/$20 limits; and $25/$50 heads-up NLHE videos. Kalas will likely be adding PLO videos in the future as he, like so many other No Limit Holdem practitioners, is starting to branch out to the popular format as well.
