Tom ‘LearnedFromTV’ Chambers

Tom Chambers has very catchy –and one of my favorites of all-time– screen-name at the online poker tables, “LearnedFromTV”, but this is most certainly not the case as Chambers is one of the most feared online poker players in the world; a reputation that was honed by countless hours of study and practice, and even more hours put in playing poker, and not as his screen-name suggests from watching TV.

Even though he now focuses on mixed games, and PLO in particular, Chambers has had a long poker career and began playing poker in 2004 at the Limit Holdem cash tables and competing in Multi-Table Tournament tables.

The former math teacher has put his background in statistics and probability to good use winning millions at the online poker tables, not to mention Chamber’s excellent track-record in live multi-table tournaments –Chambers rarely plays live cash games as the slow-speed of the game grinds on his nerves.

In addition to his online poker results, Chambers has booked over $225,000 in live tournament winnings despite playing a sparse tournament schedule. His biggest score to date is a runner-up finish in the $2,500 Omaha/Seven-Card Stud Hi/lo tournament in 2008 –one of Chamber’s six cashes at the World Series of Poker.

Chambers was born on June 7, 1980 and currently lives in Chicago, Illinois. Chambers attended Harvard University, which might explain his analytical and intellectual approach to the game of poker. Chambers was originally an instructor at PokerSavvy Plus, but was wooed away by Cardrunners, and is now an integral part of what is considered the best online poker coaching team in the market.

At Cardrunners, Tom “LearnedFromTV” Chambers has produced 15 poker training videos, all in his area of expertise, PLO. Chambers has even teamed up with other Cardrunner PLO coaches for some of his videos, working with Brian “sbrugby” Townsend and Andreas “skjervoy” Torbergsen. One of Chamber’s most popular, and insightful, contributions to the Cardrunners video archives has been the 12-part PLO Post-Flop Theory video series.

Chambers has also penned a two-part PLO poker book –with a hefty price-tag of $2,500!—titled Advanced PLO Theory Part 1, and Advanced PLO Theory Part 2. But as one reviewer put it: “These books are pricey, $2500, but if you have a desire to get substantially better at PLO, or if you are a winning NLHE player looking to move over to PLO, this book is THE BIBLE. Get ready to spend a lot of time reading and rereading it; just like any true professional has books about their field that they occasionally reference, you will have these books by your computer to help analyze your game. You will still have to put in tons of hard work to truly prosper, but this book provides all the framework for how to focus your attention and get better.”

With that kind of endorsement it’s no wonder that Cardrunners pursued Chambers so hard, and so many Cardrunners members sing his praises as their PLO win-rates increase.
