Vanessa Selbst is what most people would call an unlikely poker player. Born on July 9th, 1984 in Brooklyn New York, Selbst is a Yale graduate, and is currently enrolled in Yale Law School. She does all of this while she tears up the tournament poker trail, dominates online where she is a member of Team PokerStars Pro, and acts as an instructor and executive producer at the popular online poker training site Deuces Cracked

According to the HendonMob.com’s database Selbst is fast approaching the $2 million mark in career earnings on the live tournament trail, including a World Series of Poker bracelet that she won in 2008 in the $1,500 PLO tournament, as well as her biggest score to date, $750,000, that she won at the PokerStars.net North American Poker Tour (NAPT) Championship at Mohegan Sun in 2010.

Selbst has scored a 6-figure cash on seven separate occasions, and has landed at five WSOP final tables in her short career. Selbst is also in the running for the 2010 Partouche Poker Tour Championship, where she has made the final table as the chip-leader –the tournament will reconvene on November 7th, with a €1,300,000 in prize-money going to the winner.

Selbst has been so impressive that in 2010 she was inked to a deal by PokerStars, and officially became a member of Team PokerStars Pro, the site’s highest honor. Selbst’s success has also pushed her into the argument of who is the best female poker player in the world –which at this time the honor has to go to either Jennifer Harman or Vanessa Selbst.

Selbst has been unclear on which direction her career will take when she graduates from Yale Law School, as she has plans to go into Civil Rights Law, but with each success she makes in the poker world it will be harder and harder for her to walk away from the tables! Not only did she surpass the $1 million mark in earnings in 2010, but this doesn’t even include her PokerStars contract, online results, or Deuces Cracked salary! Perhaps a career in law can wait a few more years!
