Poker News Strategy Review

PokerNewsStrategy is one of the most recent additions to the poker training market, and has yet to officially launch. They have postponed their official launch to June 2009 –which has come and gone—and should hopefully be online any day now.

During their initial launch the site contained approximately 40 videos; the site promises better videos and more content for their re-launch.

Headlining one of the best known lists of instructors is poker mega-star, durrr challenger, and Full Tilt pro Patrik Antonius. Another instructor for PokerNews Strategy is Tony G., and it should be interesting to hear the very brash, but highly competent, player’s commentary during training videos.

Site Features:
Forum: Yes
Pro Blogs: No
Member Blogs: No
Hand History Converterr: No
Site Navigation: Good

Payment Methods:
Full Tilt Transfer

Strengths

Obviously, the instructors are going to be a major selling point for PokerNews Strategy:

• Patrik Antonius
• Tony G.
• Lex Veldhuis
• Chris Lee
• Corwin Mackey

Another advantage is their affiliation with the extremely popular PokerNews portal. This affiliation should help their marketing, and get the word out to thousands of players.

Weaknesses

It remains to be seen if the site has any holes. In my opinion, trying to launch with only 40 videos was a very bad mistake, and hopefully their re-launch will have at least double the amount of videos.

So far the site’s launch has been pushed back multiple times and they’ve had a failed launch; because of this they will need to prove they are serious about the site, and not looking to cash in on the current popularity of training sites, when they officially open their doors.

Video Library Summary:

Videos – 40+

Most videos are of No Limit Hold’ Em in various forms, and at different stakes: Including cash games and tournaments.

Patrik Antonius’s contribution to the site was two PLO videos, and H.O.R.S.E. video; therefore it would appear that PokerNews Strategyis shooting for a well rounded site, with content in many areas.

Written Content:

While PokerNews Strategy does not possess its own written content section, because of its affiliation with PokerNews, members will have quick and simple access to the parents site immense library of strategy articles.

It’s unclear at this time whether PokerNews Strategy will have its own forum area, or if they will merge with PokerNews’s forum. As the membership grows, I’m sure there will be a private forum for paying members added.

Goodies:

Pokernews Strategy currently has no special promotions to speak of; as the site establishes itself, and gets up and running they will likely introduce numerous other features for their members.

Price:

Before the site went offline prices were set at:
• Daypass - $9
• 1 month - $29
• 3 months - $82
• 6 months - $160
• 12 months - $314

It appears that the site will continue with the rates above. PokerNews Strategy was waiving the initiation fee (it’s unclear what the amount of this fee will be in the futire) and at the time were only accepting poker site transfers from Full Tilt Poker as payment.

The Verdict: Score: 5/10
Poker News Strategy have experienced countless delays and problems with the site. Let's hope when they do finally relaunch that they make up for all the issues that have taken place thus far.
