Pro Play Live Review

Pro Play Live is a collection of top-notch pros who decided to take their WSOP Academy and WPT Boot-Camp background and apply it to the world of online poker. Lead by 2004 main Event Champion Greg Raymer, Pro Play Live was launched in April 2009 with a library of over 100 training videos: Not a bad amount at launch.

The most impressive aspect of their team is not the two Main Event Champions, or the 18+ WSOP bracelets amongst them: What is truly impressive is the overall makeup of the instruction team. As soon as you see the lineup you know the instructors were not simply thrown together; it’s obvious they were hand selected, and each offers a different set of skills to the site. Pro Play Live is an extremely well rounded site; both in terms of game variants and in terms of the stakes played.

Strengths

The strength of Pro Play Live is in its instructors credentials. Not only are they world-class players, but most of them have a training background and are not entering the market as first-time instructors. The main instructors are:

• Greg Raymer -2004 WSOP Main Event champ
• Tom McEvoy -1983 WSOP Main Event champ: 4 bracelets
• Erik Seidel – 8 bracelets
• Annie Duke – UB pro and bracelet holder
• Shawn Rice – Another UB pro
• Bill Chen – Bestselling author and holder of 2 WSOP bracelets:
• John Lukas – Stud and Omaha specialist: 2 WSOP bracelets
• Alex Outhred – Instructor for both WSOP and WPT camps: Former Associate Producer for the WPT

Pro Play Live also touts their “Mystery Instructors”. The site claims they are well known players, but their identity is only made available to members!

As I mentioned earlier: while their library is not as large as older, more established training sites, Pro Play Live has one of the best varieties of content (similar to stoxpoker). As their library grows this could be what sets them apart from their competition.

Weaknesses

Pro Play Live is a solid, well rounded site. The site is run by professionals, and entered the market with a solid plan of attack; and these qualities are evident in the finished product. Overall the site has no glaring weaknesses other than as a new site they have a lack of content compared to other training sites.

Video Library Summary:

Videos – 100+

The videos are broken down into three categories:

• Cash Games
• Multi-Table Tournaments
• Sit & Go Tournaments

One aspect we really like is that Pro Play Live lists the video’s attributes –what the instructor focuses on during the video—in a bulleted style format. This small addition gives players more options when choosing videos. It also helps players who want to re-watch a specific video.

The videos range in buy-ins from $1/$2 H.O.R.S.E. tables and $11 Tournaments, up to $100/$200 Hold’ Em games and the $1,000 buy-in Sunday Million on PokerStars.

Written Content:
There is no written content at the current time, but they do send out a monthly newsletter –you do not have to be a member of the site to receive the newsletter.

Goodies:

There are no promotions or bonus materials at Pro Play Live; the site definitely focuses on its training videos; which can be seen in the quality of the content. Although as a new site they may be opening up new areas in the future.

Price

Pro Play Live is one of the more economical sites to join (this may change as the site becomes more established).

Pro Play Live offers its members two choices –Monthly payments or pre-pay:
• Monthly: $19.95/month with a one-time $49.95 initiation fee.

• Pre-Pay: 5-months for $99.75 and the site will waive the initiation fee. Pre-pay members can choose to pay the $19.95 monthly rate after their subscription expires.

Pro Play Live accepts all major credit cards, and PayPal and echecks will soon be available.

The Verdict: Score: 7/10
Proplay live feature a host of the biggest names in poker. With top quality content to match their great lineup of coaches, they are a poker training site that any serious poker player should not miss out on.
