Real Poker Training

Real Poker Training was one of the first sites to see the potential in the online poker training market. Real Poker Training’s main focus is Multi-Table Tournaments (MTTs) and their instructors boast some very impressive resumes in that field.

With over 200 streaming videos to choose from and an article section, there is plenty of content to sift through (Real Poker Training does not offer downloadable videos at this time). However, if you’re not looking to improve your MTT play you’ll find the cash game content lacking, and a full third of the cash game videos deal with the seldom played variant of 5-Card-Draw.

With such an abundance of videos to choose from, and so many different phases of MTT’s, the videos are broken up into easily navigable categories such as freeze-outs, re-buys, and final table strategy, so players can quickly access the content they are looking for.

Strengths

Real Poker Training’s biggest plus is in the MTT arena, and the sites instructors are proof of this. Headlined by WSOP bracelet winner and 2005 Main Event runner-up David Williams, the instructors’ credentials are on par with any other training site. In addition to Williams, Real Poker Training’s main instructors are:

• Ari “Bodog Ari” Engel
• Ryan “gotskillz?” Fisler
• Todd “NSXT2” Arnold
• David “Seal“ Eisenstein

Another asset of Real Poker Training is the amount of 5-Card-Draw information available. While the game may not be overly popular, it’s still very profitable if you can play it well. 5-Card-Draw is offered at PokerStars and Doyle’s Room, as well as on the Ipoker network and other European sites.

Weaknesses

Real Poker Training does have some glaring holes: Foremost is the lack of cash game videos, which is high on every player’s list of areas that needs improvement. Real Poker Training would do well to add more content in this area –the addition of Williams should help with this.

Real Poker Training’s lack of downloadable videos is also a negative.

Video Library Summary:

Videos – 200+
• No Limit Hold’ Em (cash) - 12 videos
• Limit Hold’ Em (cash) - 8 videos
• Omaha (cash) - 17 videos
• 5 Card Draw (cash) - Over 20 videos
• Multi-Table Tournaments - Over 60 videos most in the higher buy-in range, or re-buy format
• Sit & Go Tournaments - 15 videos ranging from Frequent Player Points to $225 buy-in tournaments
• Miscellaneous Videos - Over 20 videos: Basic lessons, specialty lessons, and even player critiques

Written Content:
Real Poker Training’s website also has a fairly extensive articles section to help players with different aspects of the game: You’ll find articles on anything from bankroll management to bluffing written by their cast of instructors and contributors.

Real Poker Training also has a forum section, with the main instructors each having their own sub-forum, so members can direct their questions at specific people.

Goodies:
Real Poker Training doesn’t have many bells and whistles; instead the site relies on its bread and butter: Multi-Table Tournament instruction.

Price

Real Poker Training is affordably priced at $24.95/month, and they have recently waived their initiation fee. The site also runs frequent ‘specials’, so it would be a good idea to inquire about any possible deals they have available.

Real Poker Training accepts most credit cards, and PayPal. Players can also use a poker site transfer from Ultimate Bet or Full Tilt Poker to purchase a membership.

The Verdict: Score: 7/10

Real Poker Training is a great site for tournament players with tons of useful content for the avid MTT player.
