SNGIcons

The name of the site—SNGIcons-- says it all: The site is almost entirely devoted to Sit & Go Tournament strategy, although they have a solid amount of Multi-Table Tournament content as well. The instructor team is headlined by 2-time WPT winner –and WPT Player of the Year-- Jonathan “Fiery Justice” Little, and SNGIcons has also recently added top tournament player Jonathan Jaffe to the mix; giving them a very competitive lineup. After watching a few videos it becomes quite obvious the instructors at SNGIcons are all top S&G players.

SNGIcons houses a good sized video library, with a collection of over 300 streaming videos; including member-submitted videos that are critiqued by the instructors. SNGIcons also has the obligatory forum and blog area creating a ‘community’ feel to the site.

Another one of the ‘niche’ training sites; SNGIcons makes no qualms about it; they are a Sit &Go training site; if you are looking for cash game instruction you’ll need to search elsewhere.

Strengths

SNGIcons has a very strong instructor team that does an excellent job of explaining their thought process; which is a major plus when teaching others. And they are all top S&G players –which would explain the site’s emphasis on S&G play. The site’s instructor list includes:

• Chip "z32fanatic" Ferguson
• Joey "bigjoe2003" Michael
• Jonathan "FieryJustice" Little
• Grayson "Spacegravy" Physioc
• Darin "Darinvg" Van Gammeren
• Ken "Kenny05" Smaron
• Jonathan Jaffe

With Jonathan Little, in addition to the recent addition of the second Jonathan –Jaffe—SNGIcons can also boast some of the top Multi-Table Tournament instructors on the web. And there MTT content has been growing. This area of the site has the potential to catch up to their S&G area; which would make them one of the premiere tournament training sites on the web.

The instructors also go ‘off-topic’ during down time –which is a good thing-- and talk about all kinds of poker concepts you normally don’t hear on training videos, or don’t have the opportunity to hear: From books they have read to poker theory.

Weaknesses

As a niche site, SNGIcons obviously cannot compete with the diversity of games offered at other sites. Their cash game content consists of a handful of videos (done very well though) and doesn’t seem to be a priority.
SNGIcons also has some audio/video issues; the video production/editing quality does not stack up with the other, upper echelon, training sites that they are competing with.

Low quality production aside, the instructor’s age and immaturity sometimes becomes evident during the videos: Talking on the phone while making a video; people in the background talking; watching TV, or hearing the TV in the background; there is even an instance where a player admits he is under the influence while making a video –not exactly what you want to hear when you are paying someone to teach you to play properly—and these are just some of the ‘issues’ that need to be resolved if they want to be considered a top training site.

Video Library Summary:

Videos – 300+
• No Limit Hold’ Em (cash) –4 videos
• Multi-Table Tournaments --Over 50 videos mostly done in a ‘series’ format
• Sit & Go Tournaments-- Over 200 videos and the bread-and-butter of the site

Written Content:

SNGIcons doesn’t contain much written content aside from their blog entries (limited to the instructors), and the members-only forum.

SNGIcons does promote its team very well. They have a news area (limited to news about their instructor team), and a bio area for their instructors. The site really focuses on the strength and accomplishments of its instructors.

Goodies:

SNGIcons doesn’t have any of the extras some other sites offer: Again, they market themselves as a Sit & Go training site, and stick with what they know, and go for the quality over quantity approach for their content.

Price

Unfortunately, SnGIcons have a huge $99.95 initiation fee. After that a subscription is reasonably priced at $19.95/month. The site accepts payment by major credit cards and PayPal.

The Verdict: Score: 5/10
SnGIcons is a site dedicated solely to SnG instruction. Their lack of diversity and high signup cost really impedes their growth and the price of a subscription would be better spent on a more rounded training site.
